Had my welcome meeting for my apprenticeship today. Go day is 20th August.

Only small fly in the ointment is that my manager wants me to check which of the languages they teach on the course - JavaScript, Java, C++ or Python - would be most useful at work.

My work is all in on Microsoft and SharePoint. Please don't make me learn C++! I was so hoping to learn Python! Still, they're paying the bill...

“Jamie Dimon is unequivocal about the impact of #RemoteWorking on #training new bankers. “It doesn’t work in our business,” the chief executive of JPMorgan Chase told Stanford’s Graduate School of Business this year.

“Younger people [are] left behind.”
He has previously spoken of the importance of “the #apprenticeship model . . . which is almost impossible to replicate in the #Zoom world”.

In many #workplaces, that #ApprenticeshipModel is as simple as sitting near a more experienced #colleague or joining a #client meeting to watch how it is done, while also *learning the ropes* by taking on often more #repetitive and #basic #tasks.

But #OnTheJob learning is now facing the double threat of #HybridWorking, which means #JuniorStaff spend less time #observing and #listening to more senior #colleagues, and #GenerativeAI, which is making #obsolete many of the routine tasks that have long been building blocks of #ProfessionalKnowledge.”

Last chance for L7 #Apprenticeships!

Now that the decision has finally come from government that they are killing L7 apprenticeships from the end of this year it's worth being aware that we are running 'last chance' intakes for both our #SeniorLeader and #CharteredTownPlanner programmes, you can find out more about either of these courses here: aru.ac.uk/study/degree-apprent or simply hit me up here and I'll be delighted to help out.

Good little article from #MESMA's Lou Doyle on the damaging effect of constant tinkering with the #apprenticeship system. Governments (of all hues) seem to really struggle when it comes to spotting (dumb) uninitended consequences of education policies (previously, the failure to take all of Lord Browne on tuition fees, followed by wondering why all uni's went straight to £9kpa).

The minimum spec for OTJ is likely to be this year's well meaning but ultimately wrong idea

Yesterday and today we were and are busy with apprentices... 👃 The two visit days are currently taking place here. In the picture you can see Nemat introducing the three curious guys to Nginx. 🔍 After yesterday's day, when they were able to gain an insight into what we do, exciting activities await them today. Young IT talent is very important to us, which is why we are committed to the apprentices' program. 💙 #apprenticeship #learners #visitday #behindthescenes #nine

Had a great session on Monday this week involving some lovely people from the #Accountancy trade and linked to the #InstituteofFinancialAccountants #IFA

We're working up a new #Degree #Apprenticeship programme using the Accounting #Finance Manager standard: instituteforapprenticeships.or and are gathering input and insight from local employers about how to build a comprehensive, accessible and valuable programme of study that means they have futureproof skills in their businesses.

@MikeFromLFE @ChrisMayLA6 Afaict it's still happening.

Just yesterday I cleared the final administrative hurdle to be able to offer a (highly) specialist #apprenticeship programme for #PaediatricAudiologists to enhance the skills of the workforce already in place and help bring up folk working in the area who want to progress their careers.

Publicity materials and website are being updated atm, but if anyone wants to know any more right now, then just get in touch with me.

#ARUProud of this achievement, a lot of hard work from a small but dedicated group of people (some of us have been 'at it' since 2017) means that this #NAW25 we're able to announce we have recently onboarded our 1000th #apprenticeship employer.

Here's to the next 1000!

Ideal Apprenticeship
My apprenticeship didn't occur in a single moment but through years of apparently disconnected obsessions that merged into one inevitable realization. As a kid mythology was my gateway to storytelling. A pantheon of gods & legends shaping my mind. Then came comics during my teen years, a revelation in visual storytelling, but something was missing, something deeper. That hunger led me to philosophy in college.

New episode! 💡

This one's all about #apprenticeships as a potential path into the #conservation profession: Liz has been an #apprentice, Jenny has hosted an #apprenticeship and Kloe is just plain keen.

We also chat with Jane Henderson about the potential pitfalls of the UK model, and to stone carvers Nina and Charlotte about how it works in their industry.

I met with a program coordinator this week and I'm about done with my application to an electrician #apprenticeship program, also probably starting a part-time consulting gig with another #healthcare IT company in the next few weeks...

Admission to the #trades apprenticeship isn't guaranteed and it normally takes about 3 months to go through the process, so no shame in falling back on my medical and programming experience in the interim.

Wish me luck! 🤞🏼 🍀

Applications are now open!
The National #Apprenticeship and Skills Awards will be celebrating its 21st anniversary in 2024 and for the very first time will include awards to recognise #TLevel students and employers. The awards are designed to recognise and reward the achievements of exceptional #apprentices and T Level students, skills champions and their employers.

(UK Civil service social accounts are quiet due to the election - please share this.)
