Paul SochackiI met with a program coordinator this week and I'm about done with my application to an electrician <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/apprenticeship" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#apprenticeship</a> program, also probably starting a part-time consulting gig with another <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/healthcare" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#healthcare</a> IT company in the next few weeks... Admission to the <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/trades" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#trades</a> apprenticeship isn't guaranteed and it normally takes about 3 months to go through the process, so no shame in falling back on my medical and programming experience in the interim. To me, an <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/apprenticeship" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#apprenticeship</a> is something that a young person does to gain the necessary experience in order to join a profession. Its inherently an entry-level thing. At my workplace, they were talking about apprenticeships in an all-hands and it was v confusing. They're calling any in-work training an apprenticeship. I assume this is either so they can claim some kind of tax benefit and/or the government get to claim to hit some kind of target. In-job training is great, but a middle aged white collar worker doing a part time MBA is not an apprenticeship to me.
