For PINE64 Community Quarterly Q&A (Q1 2024), place your questions in comments here!
@PINE64@fosstodon.org not sure if questions related to pine64eu are allowed, but will accessories (like pinetab2 uart adapter) be available there?
@magmaus3 @PINE64 We answered your question and you can find the footage here: https://util.pine64.org/q-a.php?session=2024-q1&ts=2883
@PINE64 hello, got a Q
Has the PineSound died? It was said to be an April Fool's joke in 2022, and then said not to be. The dithering seemed in poor taste, and now it looks like it was part of the joke?
Looking forward to hear more, as I was excited to contribute in that space.
@bujiraso @PINE64 We answered your question and you can find the footage here: https://util.pine64.org/q-a.php?session=2024-q1&ts=2952
@PINE64
PineBone.
(Actually, that sounds terrible, but I still kind of like it.)
I can't wait to get my new phone, (if google ever gets off their ass/stops gaslighting me,) so I can install the new firmware in my Pinetime.
The Pine assistant sounds interesting, but I've gone this long with all that junk disabled. Dunno if I'd bother even with this.
@PINE64
Thanks for that opportunity!
1. What haplend with the plans for a buetooth-audio development board?
2. What has become of the DevZone?
3. Wouldn't it be promising to put some resources in development, community organisation and up to date documentation even if you would need to increase product prices by 10%?
4. Do you share the the observation that the number of half-baked/unusable products has become quite high? What do you do/plan aigainst this?
I've been saying point 3 for quite some time (and as recently as today! :P )

@PINE64 I would like to know what happened to Manjaro as the standard distribution for the PP ? Is there still development going on ? Bugtrackers don't show any new entrys for some time and Plasma got kind of dropped ?

@PINE64 rk3588 based pinephone when ?
@PINE64 will there be possibility to upgrade Pinebook Pro to RK3588 or something newer? Or is future in PineTab?
@PINE64 thanks, what is the status of the promising Pinenote: will you produce a new batch?
@PINE64 neeer RK35xx -based iterations of PinePhone (Pro) and PineBook Pro?
I am very happy with my PBP, but it starts to show kts age. I would be happy to upgrade in some not too distant future
@PINE64 @gamelaster ~Do you have a comment on that question? Thank you!~
Update:
Other people asked similar question on Reddit which were answered within the first 10 to 20 minutes of the video.
(TL;DR: No direct plan for now. RK3566 PinePhone won't happen soon given performance. RK3588 PineBook Pro costs probably too much for now. Risc-V PineBook could happen in the future given costs of chips, but no immediate plan).
When and where can I get my hands on a bone conducting headphone—let's call it PineShock(z/s) for now—for tinkering?
And what would be an estimate on the community price?

@PINE64 Another question:
SailfishOS as a preinstall on Pine's phones and tablets when?
in my experience, SFOS has been good enough to daily drive PPP.
@dryak @PINE64 We answered your question and you can find the footage here: https://util.pine64.org/q-a.php?session=2024-q1&ts=3586
@gamelaster @PINE64 Thanks for the answers.
Happy to hear it is happening!
@PINE64 Is Manjato still the default operating system the PinePhone ships with? If so, why? I think the default should be a more stable image that is still very active like PostmarketOS.
@PINE64 What are you planning to do to make the PinePhone better?
@PINE64 New Name: PineSense
@PINE64 suggestion for the future: please mention the date of the Q&A in these posts so I don't have to go looking... (22nd March, 7pm CET). Will you only answer on video, or will you also leave text replies somewhere? (A blog post with text replies will help very much!)

@PINE64 3rd question:
Broken Pine64 electronics with still useful components: what to do?
e.g. my PinePhone Pro's mainboard broke after a fall. Given the error message over serial debug, one of the RAM chip isn't initialising anymore.
I can't do component repair my self, but it would be a shame to throw it in the trash as it certainly has a still working RK3399, probably a still working modem, perhaps a still working eMMC, etc.
Is there a way to send back to Pine64 for salvaging?
@dryak @PINE64 We answered your question and you can find the footage here: https://util.pine64.org/q-a.php?session=2024-q1&ts=3691
@gamelaster @PINE64 Thanks for the answers.
Too bad it will have to go to e-Waste!
What's happening in the world of #PinePhone and #PinePhonePro development?
I was (and still am) super excited to see a new update. As many cool new things are in there, what I was really hoping for was info on the phones development.
@Blort @PINE64 well #DanctNix has a new update out with phosh, sxmo, and barebone flavours, plasma mobile is on KDE6 or whatever, so #pinephone development is still going strong.
https://github.com/dreemurrs-embedded/Pine64-Arch/releases
@PINE64 I loved how the early phone models you donated 10% to the various communities (which also gave you a lot of publicity).
Is there any chance of putting that same 10% in an ongoing basis towards supporting the most critical development (eg camera stuff, power management, or whatever the community is most in need of)?
While I'm mainly asking about the phones, really just about *all* your products (especially the more consumer oriented ones) would benefit from this.
Will you be re-enabling comments on the blog?
One alternative: I've seen a couple of blogs that pull comments from the fedi... (I think LinMob was one?)
@PINE64 @Blort We don't do comments on the site, we just sometimes link to a Mastodon post people can then reply to, but it does not get pulled back into the site, but https://carlschwan.eu/2024/02/22/kirigami-addons-1.0/ uses such a system.
There are many other ways for static blogs to add comments, e.g., one based on GitHub https://giscus.app/ or one where you have to run your own server https://isso-comments.de/.

How will you be co-operating with the @homeassistant community to ensure tight integration with the #PineVox?
There's a big potential userbase there, but they're likely to work on the integration in home assistant more than the OS and hardware enablement of the actual device.
If they have to wait for drivers to be developed and mainlined before it can be used with HomeAssistant, you could lose most of your momentum with this.
@Blort @PINE64 @homeassistant We answered your question and you can find the footage here: https://util.pine64.org/q-a.php?session=2024-q1&ts=3890
@gamelaster @PINE64 @homeassistant
Thanks. Is the response available anywhere other than #YouTube? Like a mirror on #Peertube , or a transcript somewhere?
@Blort @PINE64 @homeassistant hmm, its good idea to reupload the footage to Peertube, sadly, we weren't streaming here, as we had issues last time. I will take look on it.
@PINE64 Pinebook Pro 2 with at least 8gb RAM? Is that happening?
@PINE64
I would like to ask about the possibility of a Pinenote second batch, right now the only way to get a unit is through eBay listings and I firmly believe that this fact is delaying the development of the software for this branch of products.
By the way: thank you very much Maximilian for all your effort in bringing Debian to the table.
@PINE64 what happened with the DevZone and the ideas for bounties/ supporting projects or developers? Is this still being worked in the background?
@PINE64 here is a silly idea - electrical outlet that can safely be controlled through pins with SBCs
The only one I can find is iot-power-relay but the idea looks like a perfect companion for IOT projects

@PINE64 Are there plans to release an updated PineCube or other open-source surveillance camera? This is a sorely underserved segment of the market, which is dominated by closed, cloud-based tech. It'd be awesome to see (and help fund) a quality open-source competitor. Maybe a PTZ-capable upgrade model? Eh? Eh?
