"The #cloud isn’t your friend. It’s a business. And when their business needs conflict with your data’s existence, guess which one wins?"

"I wasn’t alone in being targeted by AWS—especially #MENA. Hundreds of Reddit threads, websites, forums, all telling similar stories."

AWS deleted my 10-year account and all data without warning
Seuros Blog · AWS deleted my 10-year account and all data without warningAfter 10 years as an AWS customer and open-source contributor, they deleted my account and all data with zero warning. Here's how AWS's 'verification' process became a digital execution, and why you should never trust cloud providers with your only copy of anything.

Read That Before You Trust Anything by Microsoft Once Again
karl-voit.at/2024/07/17/Micros

It's hard to believe that more or less all of #Microsoft is considered completely infiltrated by unknown hacker groups.

Read my article + the linked sources and then write me arguments why Microsoft should be trusted (again). 🪟

#Emacs #UOMF: Linking Headings
karl-voit.at/2019/11/16/UOMF-L

I found an interesting link I added: if you're using a different method (using out of the box functionality) to link #orgmode headings, you might need to use this really tedious repair mechanism because links get broken all the time. 😲

Well, I'm glad I have found my way around that already, not having broken links in the first place. 🙄

The Advantages of #Text-Based #Information Versus #Videos, #Audio or #Images
karl-voit.at/2022/01/08/text-v

I just published a comment by mizu where he refers to an interesting video from 1994: "maybe in the future #pharmacies and #bookstores will be the same since people will be so lazy to read the contents of a book that they will want to get the contents of the #books from something that they can digest easily, in the form of pills (or injections)."

Managing Network Devices via #Orgmode Table and #OpenWRT Router
karl-voit.at/2025/04/18/openwr

I do maintain only one single table with all of my devices. I can control their IP and their ability to connect to the Internet (or not).

With this table, I do have a great overview of my devices and their IPs.

I thought you might like the idea ...

Of course, if you do have long-time plans for your personal #knowledgemanagement, you should not use proprietary tools like #Obsidian, #OneNote, #Evernote and alike.

You also should think of switching to a much better (learnability, portability/compatibility, typobility, logic, featureset) markup syntax like #orgdown which is used in #Emacs #Orgmode (among other tools).

But if you start with Org-mode, you need to know the right way of doing it, as so many web pages recommend. Here's my take:

A specific blog post about the #lockin effects of Obsidian and Co (despite using some tool-specific flavor of MD) is in the making. (Please don't start a religious discussion here.)

#SocialNetworks that are fed by an #algorithm are causing much harm to you. Just one example of many: karl-voit.at/2024/07/13/social

Please do convince your friends and relatives to try out a healthy alternative like the #Fediverse here: karl-voit.at/2024/06/18/Fedive

When you visit your friends and family, tell them about not having #endlessscrolling or #doomscrolling. Tell them about being able to read unfiltered comments and articles. Tell them about not destroying your mental health all the time, following some #influencers that show a wrong picture of the world and the people.

Accounts on servers like graz.social are for free. (Donations welcomed: info.graz.social/spenden/ )

Have a happy weekend!

YMMV

A reminder to all users of #Emacs org-mode:

Deleting collapsed parts of your files is dangerous.

Today, this trick saved me a couple of hundred org-mode lines I would have lost without noticing while cleaning up:
