In good local news, it sounds like any mining on the upper Pecos River (a short drive from here, and one of my favorite nearby “wild” areas) is off for the next 20 years. The construction on NM4 apparently cut into our existing middle mile yesterday, so the whole county was without internet or cell signal (all providers except the county's microwave link, which residents can only access at county buildings like the library) all day yesterday.

#Texas doctors say they are worried about measles spreading to population centers in an outbreak the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention expects to “expand rapidly”.

Two people have died and at least 208 people have become sick across west Texas and #NewMexico after an outbreak of the vaccine-preventable disease took hold in rural Gaines county.

As spring progresses and the weather heats up, the higher likelihood of fires will also move north. It's just a matter of time.

It's not #WIPWednesday yet here in #newmexico, but I just finished 25% of my planting for the season.
* 80 corn
* 30 beans
* 16 squash (two varieties)
* 14 chile peppers (two varieties)
All seeds are from plants I grew the previous season, from seeds of plants I grew the season before that, etc.

I'm celebrating by enjoying a locally brewed (Santa Fe) hazy wit-style brew with peach and locally grown marijuana. Harsh winds and weather are expected in a couple of days.
