Cuban Leader: ‘Everything for the People and with the People’

The author, Ernesto Limia Díaz, is First Vice-president of the Writers Association of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba. Based on a Facebook post on July 18, 2025

from #WorldOutlook
July 21, 2025

Among other important points, Limia Díaz notes that “we cannot ignore that formalizing a private economy presents challenges to the #Cuban model. One thing we must be clear about: under socialism the blind laws of the market cannot govern ― or to be precise, the “blind” laws of those seers who control the market. Under socialism the market cannot dictate the trajectory, it must establish a harmonious relationship with the interests of society. Achieving this requires planning, audacity, control, and solidarity education.”

Cuba’s President: ‘We Can’t Defend the Revolution when We Hide Our Problems’

from #WorldOutlook
July 20, 2025

[translation of an article published on July 15, 2025, on the website of the Presidency of the Cuban government.]

It reports on the response by Miguel #Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, #Cuba’s president, to controversial remarks a day earlier by Cuba’s Minister of Labor and Social Security, Marta Elena Feitó Cabrera.

On July 14, Feitó Cabrera told the National Assembly, Cuba’s parliament, that there are no beggars in Cuba, that the island’s beggars are faking poverty in search of easy money, and that those cleaning windshields on the streets or picking up rubbish from trash bins are actually collecting raw materials without paying taxes.

“We have seen people who appear to be beggars, but when you look at their hands, when you look at the clothes those people wear, they are disguised as beggars,” Feitó Cabrera said.

Harvard Publisher Cancels Journal Issue on Palestine Just Before Publication

The special issue, which was slated to be published this summer, was just about ready – contracts with most authors were finalized and articles were edited. They covered topics from the annihilation of #Gaza’s schools to the challenges of teaching about #Israel and #Palestine in the #US.

But on 9 June, the Harvard Education Publishing Group, the journal’s publisher, abruptly canceled the release. In an email to the issue’s contributors, the publisher cited “a number of complex issues”, shocking authors and editors alike...

#Trump’s War on Cuba Now Targets Many Cuban Americans

Statement by the US-Cuba Normalization Coalition

from #WorldOutlook
July 25, 2025

For over 60 years, the #US government has imposed a harsh blockade along with economic and political warfare aimed at destabilizing and overthrowing the #Cuban government. As part of this project, it has also incentivized Cuban emigration by offering special pathways to residency and citizenship if they made their way to the U.S. The narrative that they are “victims of Communism” seeking freedom is misleading. In reality the hardships created by the U.S. blockade, more than political differences, have fueled emigration. These bribes were intended to turn them into pawns in Washington’s war against #Cuba.

Those Attacking Pro-Palestinian Student Protests Endanger Jews

It’s Not Gaza Campus Protests That Endanger Jews, It’s Misguided Efforts to ‘Protect’ Them

What truly poses a danger to #Jews today is not young people demanding peace on campuses, it’s the way in which authorities, both university and governmental, but also the Jewish establishment, respond

article below was first published by Haaretz

Its author, Elijah Kahlenberg, is the president and founder of Atidna International, a university-based peace group uniting Jewish and Arab students.

Kahlenberg, who is #Jewish, graduated this spring from the University of Texas, Austin. Last year, he took part in UT student protests condemning #Israel’s genocidal war in #Gaza and demanding the school divest from entities that do business with Israel.

In this essay, author #AdamShatz raises important issues that deserve further discussion in light of the gruesome Oct. 7 attack led by #Hamas that targeted civilians in #Israel, the genocidal war Israel unleashed in retaliation on the entire population of #Gaza, and a new wave of violence by the Israel Defense Forces (#IDF) and #Zionist settlers against #Palestinians in the #WestBank. Shatz also examines political developments in the #Mideast and beyond after the recent #US-#Israeli war on #Iran. He spells out the implications of last year’s Israeli invasion of #Lebanon, which decimated the Iranian-backed #Hezbollah and caused a substantial death toll among the broader civilian Lebanese population, and of the overthrow of the Assad dictatorship in #Syria.

L.A. has been the epicenter of many such protests over the last month since the White House picked the city to launch its aggressive dragnet, carried out by Immigration and Customs Enforcement #(ICE) agents, targeting millions of workers across the country.

As a recent article published by the #WashingtonPost revealed, ICE arrests have more than doubled since Trump took office in January, compared to the same period last year."

PHOENIX, Arizona — On Saturday, June 14, U.S. president #DonaldTrump watched over a military parade in Washington, D.C. The lackluster spectacle was designed to celebrate Trump’s birthday, which coincided with the 250th anniversary of the #US Army, and thus advance the process of establishing one-man rule in the #UnitedStates.

The same day, over 5 million people took part in “#NoKings” rallies and marches across the country. The flagship march in Philadelphia was estimated to have surpassed 100,000 demonstrators. Other large actions included more than 50,000 in New York City, and tens of thousands in Atlanta, Chicago, and Los Angeles.

The same day, over 5 million people took part in “No Kings” rallies and marches across the country. These registered the growing opposition to intensifying workplace raids by heavily armed federal agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and to the danger that these — and other actions by the White House — pose to due process, civil liberties, and democratic rights. These protests followed a weeklong social explosion in Los Angeles in response to a spike of ICE raids.

World-Outlook · End Immigration Raids! Free David Huerta! Join June 9 RalliesOn Friday afternoon [June 5, 2025], military-gear-clad ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] agents launched aggressive raids throughout Los Angeles. At one location, SEIU-USWW President David Huerta was assaulted, injured and detained while advocating for immigrant workers. While he has been released from the hospital, he remains in federal custody. Since then, the Trump administration has only escalated its attacks on the Los Angeles community, deploying the military against our own people. This is a clear attack on our communities, workers and our First Amendment rights. Demand that David Huerta be freed and ICE raids end immediately. The SEIU-USSW is organizing rapid-response rallies around the country [on Monday, June 9] to show that we stand with him and all workers targeted by ICE. There are already rallies popping up. Check to see if there's one near you or organize your own! seiu.co/FreeDavid
