Wow! I have been trying to find this #song for over four decades. I heard it on a #cassette tape and absolutely loved it. ❤️

I took it to my high school French #teacher, and in her usual helpful and encouraging manner she claimed she couldn't understand it at all and so couldn't help me with any aspect of #transcribing or even #translating it. 🙄

I could understand some of the words, but not enough of them to be able to ever hope to translate it. The few bits I caught led me to suspect it was a song about the Lord Randall poisoning story, but I see now that I am incorrect. 🙂

Gorgeous song nonetheless. ❤️❤️❤️

If you can read #cursive #NationalArchives would like a word. Or a few million. More than 200 yrs worth of US #documents need #transcribing (or at least classifying) vast majority from #RevolutionaryWar era are handwritten in #cursive requiring people who know the flowing, looped form of #penmanship. “Reading cursive is a superpower." Some 5,000 Citizen Archivists R helping the Archive read & transcribe some of the more than 300 million digitized objects in its catalog bespacific.com/can-you-read-cu

Thinking about #transcribing a novella by #FountainPen (similar to how Mountain of Ink uses LotR for testing ink samples, but at a much smaller scale!). There’s a 175ish pg book I’d like to spend more time with & my gut is saying this is a great way to do so.

Anyone have recommendations or tips for doing a first transcription project? My handwriting is quite terrible, so itd be for personal use as a handwriting practice project.

ETA: I have a book in mind, but I appreciate the recs!

4+ years ago I started transcribing Folger Shakespeare Library MS V.a.447 (John Guillim's heraldic notebook) from digitised images. This is the MS that started my researching Guillim.

For some reason the images for folios 39r-44v were missing. My contact at the Folger said there was no reason they shouldn't have been digitised, and the metadata on the images was probably wrong.

Periodically I have checked to see if this has been sorted, and today I found it has!
Now to finish transcribing, and then finish encoding in TEI!

Okay so I'm #disabled my self, specifically #blind, but because I really don't want to speak on your guy's behalf before understanding your needs fully, would some of you lovely #HoH / #hardOfHearing, #APD, #Deaf and #Deafblind folks out there let me know if this is actually something you want before I open my mouth and go blabbing about it to everyone? :D
Essentially, I've noticed that on the fediverse and even more so on the internet in general, #AudioTranscripts are not nearly as well known or prioritized as alt text or image descriptions for #accessibility. I think this is pretty F'd up if you ask me. I realize that doing good #Transcriptions is harder in some ways because most people tend to think better visually than aurally, but I also know how useful it can be for some of my HoH friends.
So the question is this. Are audio transcripts important to you? Do you find them useful? And if so, would you like to see more of them around here at least for shorter video and audio clips?
Resources, examples, or tips on how to do audio transcripts properly, especially when it comes to scope of description, or how to handle sounds, complex vocals, and music are also much appreciated. I want to know what I'm talking about a little bit before I start advising others.
Thank you so much for your time. :)
