Seems like M$ is determined to ruin VSCode with all that copilot crap. I've moved to Codium on my work machine today. I wouldn't be surprised if 2025 turned out to be the year I finally quit GUI editors for good and moved to NeoVim.

How-To Geek: Microsoft’s New Text Editor Is a Vim and Nano Alternative. “Microsoft just released ‘Edit’ as a new command-line text editor, which will soon be a built-in Windows application. It’s inspired by the MS-DOS Edit program from the 1990s, and it’s already open-source software.”

In addition to open sourcing WSL at 2025 Build, Microsoft open sources GitHub Copilot and… <checks notes> a command-line text editor that isn’t emacs, vi, vim, Neovim, ed, edlin, nano, pico, e3, JOE, micro, Kakoune, mcedit, mle, Yi, Tilde, sublimious, ne, slap, multitextor, Mg, vis, or any other terminal editor from the last 50 years.

Sounds like somebody vibe-coded themselves a new application!

I went to Calm Coding at @varia and it was very cool! We listened to #cumbia, ate cookies and talked about #servers, #microblogging, #sftp, #texteditors, #obsidian, #emacs, #vim, #bash, #zotero, #mastodon, #bluesky, #wikimedia, #hibiscus, #markdown, #orgmode, #hugo, #knitting, #happenings, #websites, #rent and #bread. Admittedly there was some coding as well.
I felt very welcome and I think it's pretty dope that I already met real peoples through Mastodon! 8-)
Ty @bene & @ccl for organizing!

What's the best software for editing #GemText? I have a #Gemini capsule I'm playing with that's generated by Sutter:

It's a managed hosting environment where it's not pleasant to edit the text directly on the server, so I guess I'll write gemtext on my desktop and sync it with the server. I might as well have the prettiest editing environment possible.

I recognize that gemtext is simple so I don't need an IDE, I just want good ergonomics.
