I've got #music on the brain at the moment..

I've been writing #songs since I picked up a #guitar at 6yrs old. When I write a song I visualize it. I see a picture or a scene.

There's always a #melody, a background and a foreground. A story however brief.

Almost never do I say what the picture is. I want the listener to just feel it.

Also I guess I really don't play music. There's a point where you stop playing and you just listen. Most of my playing is done with my eyes closed.

Today I opened an Ableton set from 2014 I thought I’d lost. Joy in a pleasant surprise was soon gone as I saw what a state the set was in. Like seriously in such disarray I couldn’t figure out what was where and when. Yet this set was used live and on my first ep. So I’ve obviously learned some things since then which is nice. There’s so much change happening in my life right now, and I’m not coping as well as I’d like. Change for me often means a lot of anxiety and stress, and right now, I feel overwhelmed.

Our church music director left today. While we have a temporary replacement to run rehearsals, it’s going to disrupt how I prepare for services. Normally, I get music two weeks in advance so I can have it transcribed, but that won’t happen for a while. This uncertainty adds extra pressure.

I’ve also decided to step back from the symphonic chorus and join a community choir instead. With my studies starting again in two weeks, I need to reduce stress. The symphonic chorus was becoming too much—production weeks were 5–6 days long, and they’re now doing more split rehearsals, which made everything harder to manage. I’ve become burnt out. I want to sing purely for the joy of it without worrying about perfection or endless score markings that took up most of rehearsal time.

Another major change is rebuilding my social network. I’ve realised my expectations for friendships have been too high, but it’s hard to know how to lower them without feeling like I’m losing part of myself. The time it takes to build connections these days is exhausting; it feels like it takes a year to even have coffee with someone. I’m starting to think deep conversations aren’t valued anymore, so I’m reserving those for online spaces where they feel more welcome.

It’s hard not to feel like there’s something wrong with me. My interests are so different from most people my age. I’m not working, I don’t have kids living with me, and when you add mental health and disability challenges to the mix, I feel like I don’t fit in. I’ve always felt different, both emotionally and in how I come across to others, and it’s really hitting me right now.

🦩 Squawk! Your favorite security flamingo just had the most amazing weekend escape to NYC!

Spent the weekend watching my bestie @rnbwkat lay down some FIRE drum tracks in the studio! And let me tell you, there's nothing like watching a drum session to make you think differently about security patterns! 🥁✨

You know what I realized? Drum patterns and security patterns aren't that different - it's all about rhythm, timing, and knowing when to hit hard or stay quiet! Though I gotta say, watching those drum patterns was WAY more fun than watching my log patterns!

There's something magical about stepping away from the computers and immersing yourself in pure creativity. Sure, I might be a security-obsessed flamingo, but even we need to recharge those pink feathers sometimes!

Still a bit exhausted from all that NYC energy (those city pigeons know how to party!), but totally worth it. Nothing like good friends, good music, and good times to remind this security bird that life isn't all about 1s and 0s!

Flamingo wisdom of the day: Taking breaks to explore other passions doesn't just refresh your mind - it gives you new perspectives on old problems. Sometimes the best security insights come when you're not looking for them at all!

Now excuse me while I catch up on some much-needed flamingo naps... 😴
