Nunca Más, CONADEP’s (The National Commission on Disappeared People) report of their findings from their project to document what happened to the disappeared in Argentina from 1976 to 1983, begins with a historical contextualization of how the military junta came to power, by Nick Caistor from the Index on Censorship.
Like any historian of the Dirty War, Caistor begins with the return from exile of Juan Domingo Perón, who returned to Argentina on the 20th of June 1973. His party had just won the election with 62% of the vote, and Hector Cámpara, who had run, stepped aside for Perón to return as president.
From the start there were problems. Peronists gathered at the airport to welcome Perón back to Argentina, but there were two factions that had won Perón the election (both considered themselves Peronists), and they were not ideologically aligned.
On one side were the Montenegro’s, a left-wing revolutionary group. On the other side were the right wing labor bosses. Fighting broke out at the airport, and what seemed to be a celebratory moment ended with 25 dead and many more wounded.
It’s a sadly befitting beginning for the era that would follow.

What is disappearance? In short, it is a repressive tactic used by authoritarian states to terrorize the civilian population into submission.
While the term “the disappeared” emerges in the aftermath of authoritarianism in Guatemala (1966) and Operation Condor in South America (perhaps most famously General Pinochet and his reign of terror in Chilean, but also juntas across South America including in Argentina), it describes a tactic that has long been in use and continues to be used by authoritarian regimes across the world, so it’s a concept to be aware of and understand.
Disappearance is characterized by illegal abduction, secret detention centers, torture, death, and unofficial burial.
Disappearance was, in theory, a way to avoid responsibility. The state maintained plausible deniability while effectively terrorizing their citizens into submission. The message is clear, you could be next.

Gibt ja einige Fediwesen, die das machen. Nun meine Frage: Was für ein Journal sollte 1 sich zulegen ? Also Marke, Papierstärke etc. Worauf gilt es zu achten ?
Bin für jedwede Tipps dankbar, auch Links zu interessanten Webseiten zum Thema sind sehr willkommen.
It's new notebook day! Outgoing on the left is a Leuchtturm 1917 in B5 and incoming on the right is a Noble Note (also in B5). Custom artwork by my talented 14 year old daughter using acrylic markers. I've now added a see through cover and two bookmarks. Now the setup work can begin!
I might switch from Leuchtturm1917 Bullet Journal notebooks to Midori MD Notebook Journal notebooks for my bullet journal. Midori has 14 fewer pages but in my biased opinion way better paper as far as fountain pens are concerned. And the price per page is, depending on the supplier, about 5 eurocents cheaper. Midori doesn't have a hard cover, though, so I might have to invest in a durable cover for the notebook that I carry everywhere. I've tried to really love #Things and the task list in #WithMoxie, but I miss physically writing things down for my daily lists. Moreover, I miss the ritual of assessing my day and planning the next away from my PC.
So we're back to the trusty #Leuchtturm1917 and Lamy Al-Star for some ultra-light #BulletJournal style task management for a bit to see how it feels.
No trackers, no fancy layouts, just to-do's with a / for started tasks or tasks with clients and an X to mark them complete.
Look at me, I'm posting my journal deco for May 6-13 actually on time. LOL
I'm really pleased with my collages this week. It's the week of the dot stickers. Only one spread has no circle or dot stickers. As I said last week, dots bring everything together. I love dots.
I added a close up of that one boy sticker, because of the reflection on it on the big photo. I love these boy tapes.
Which leads me to a question: The week after that is my birthday and I am torn about how to decorate that day: fun party spread, or sexy boys??? I am tending towards sexy boys. I have some funny ones.
Journal deco for the last and this week. I was not at my A game for sure, I worked quick to get it done as fast as possible. My least favourite spread is the pink one with the dancing ladies. I think I rescued it ok though with adding all those sakura stickers. And that is what I like about being creative: some things don't work how you envision them, but often there are ways to rescue them still. Just add stickers , especially dots. Dots bring so many pages together, it's incredible.
