Familiar with Swift, UIKit, and know your way around XCode? Want to help advance the state of #XMPP on #iOS?
This will be a paid short-term project producing FLOSS. DM or email matthew@snikket.org if you're interested.
Not an iOS dev? That's okay, boosts appreciated too!
We're still looking for the right person! Do you know anyone?
Recently extended our search to the growing community of tech co-ops: https://community.coops.tech/t/open-source-ios-swift-uikit-development-required/2864
Thanks for everyone's help spreading the word about this position! It's truly appreciated. We just started working with someone, and we're looking forward to advancing our app out of beta soon!
To anyone from the future who comes across this post and feels they fit the description, reach out and say hi anyway! It's always good to know who's out there
@snikket_im how did this go?
@liaizon An amazing number of boosts from the community! But it seems extremely difficult to find developers who are motivated to do this kind of open-source work who also have a good grasp of the iOS/Apple ecosystem.
We briefly worked with someone since this post, and they made some UI tweaks we'll roll out to the beta soon. But they have now moved to full-time work elsewhere.
Had a good meeting with a new dev last week, awaiting their initial estimate. Maybe they will be the one?!
@snikket_im reshared. This time #XMPP is still trending great.
@snikket_im Ah nice! xmpp needs this SOOOO MUCH! Go big!
Flutter might also be a good angle, hit all the platforms at once?
@fatboy Yes, certainly a cross-platform client is very tempting! Flutter and React Native are obvious choices for such a project.
However starting a new client project from scratch would be an ambitious step that we can't really justify right now. There are already decent clients that have years of development behind them. Our current goals are to give them a boost and the polish needed to be as bug-free and user-friendly as possible.
