This is probably preaching to the choir here, but I love mastodon. I've never been more comfortable to just chat with random people since my days on an Ocarina forum in highschool. Its much more friendly than reddit.
@cavaliertusky the thing is that Reddit is kind of the same if you use it the way you use Mastodon or that Ocarina of time forum. A small(er) group of people with at least one shared interest will always foster a friendlier community than large general groups. If you go to smaller subs on Reddit it's still pretty damned friendly. Fosstodon has 5000 users, and I guarantee any <5K subreddit will be close in friendliness.
@kungtotte I'm on so many tiny subs and it just doesn't have the same feel. For reddit its more of a big deal to post and comment for me, like I need some new big idea. But here I can just chat, if that makes sense. I do love my small subs though.
@cavaliertusky Let's hope it'll stay that way.
@cavaliertusky Yes! I am back after a hiatus and super happy with the vibe here.
@mkb Same, I was gone for a few months!
I agree! I love browsing reddit, but anytime I post anything, people are so negative! I post a joke that is new to me, and it's a repost. I express an opinion that is fairly neutral, and it gets downvoted to hell. BUT, I make one drunken comment on another person's post and I get platinum.
Here, all I get are favorites, boosts, and genuine replies (which are great) or silence (which, let's be honest, is way better than that stupid blue down arrow).
@supergoose Yes, much less negativity. I haven't had much luck drunkposting, tend to get in more arguments, haha.
If I am drunk on reddit, I just make funny (hilarious) comments on a ton of posts and comments. I probably only succeed due to volume of comments.
But like any social media, any well thought out post/comment I do (sober) is always a flop.
