Getting ready for my first long (2 days) outing carrying on the ! :debian:

Battery is at 99% and I'm keeping it plugged in till I leave, in about 15 minutes. Also carrying a power bank as backup 🔋

I'll be updating more on this thread as things progress, now that I can 😉

Where I'm going: to participate in the @prav related panel discussion at in , :xmpp:

Switching off power and WiFi. Mobile data, here we come!

By the way here's the event link:

nexus.sjcetpalai.ac.in/fossday

I realised one disadvantage of going out is there are bright places where I have to crank up the backlight. Well, at least most of my travelling this time is at night 😎

I forgot to test mobile data before leaving (someone on the channel had trouble with that on their recently) but as you can see it's working fine! Phew 📶

Hippo 🍉

Mobile data got stuck at off when I switched it off in the forest. Had to go to settings to turn it back on.

Nice thing about Mobian is you can even switch off cellular if you want (I didn't this time)

I forgot I ges bussick if I see the screen too long. One disadvantage of not having buttons 🙁️ bye for now

Okay I'm back after the first leg of the journey. I'd put the phone on suspend for a while which also stonewalls calls and SMSes but informs me when I wake it up ( bug, or, shall I say, feature)

Here's a demonstration of the cellular being switched off. in . The mobile data toggle thing is. now working fine by the way

As you can see there my battery is at 78%. That was partly because my Maps froze and I had to restart, which tends to drain a few %

Just starting dinner. Unfortunately no photos due to missing camera drivers, but those are on the way. In the meantime I shall enjoy myself distraction free 😉

At the railway station and we'te down to 43%. Wondering if I should top up as the station has many accessible plug points, but usually the trains do too ⚡

Ignore the 1h 55min remaining time; I think it's actually a bit more than that. But we shall see 😉

Sampling some to listen to on the way, although I should ideally be sleeping. You never know 🤪

Also, audio drama is different from audio books so don't get confused. It's more like radio plays, but takes it to the next level with 3D surround sound effects and everything! May be drowned out by the train though so maybe I'll listen to some non-QCODE thing this time so as not to "waste" the sound effects 🤔

Gah, those episode downloads brought my battery back to 49. But it's FAST! I could literally see multiple MBs ticking in every second 🏃➡️

When 4G works, it *works*

By the way there's an app called for those of you who have downloaded in an actual audiobook format. Unfortunately I am not (yet) one of you so I have to make do with the podcasty method (the previous screenshot was of )

Charging plan abandoned because I spent too much time posting and now my train is nigh 🙃

Ah okay so I just remembered plug points are not exactly accessible from the side upper berth 😣

I could leave it down to charge but I want to start.my listening and am too lazy to do remote-control from Bluetooth earphones so I guess I'll just rely on the power bank tonight. Probably going offline in a bit for a bit to save battery (now 30%; maybe that estimate was accurate after all)

I reach in the middle of the night so I hope the alarm works! I'm setting a test alarm to find out ⏰

If you don't hear from me in four and a half hours, raise the alarm!

Well, so the test alarm *technically* rang, but it was just a silent notification?? What even

Okay so it's a bug. Killing the clock and reopening it shows the alarm, but you got to kill after the alarm time which is a bit useless.

Workaround: sleep && amberol # tried aplay but it only plays static

Ooh maybe I can do a sleep && kill Clocks instead? Experiment for future!

*sets phone to full volune and goes to sleep*

Update: I am, in fact, awake, although the train's running a bit late. The GNOME Clocks alarm gave a silent notification that I noticed 7 minutes later. The sleep command didn't work, so maybe I miscalculated something 🤐️ fortunately but not coincidentally I was awake anyway

Reached the station and got my bus with minutes to spare, but that's no fault of Mobian's: blame the railways 😉

There seems to be an issue with the mic; that happens sometimes. A restart seems to have fixed it: at least, it picks up static and finger-snapping; I haven't tested on an actual call yet 📞

Looks like Mobile Data really drains the battery! I'm at 39% already after just

Wait just realised it's 8 hours. That's normal then. Time flies when you're sleeping! 🚌

Arrived about half an hour ago with @bady and @kannan. Photo courtesy *not* my of course 📸

Time's up I need to plug in to charge again 😵

By the way here's the poster for the panel discussion about @prav and , with me, @bady, and @kannan

And the poster for the event itself!

Enough social media for now. Hello (real) world 👋

@badrihippo it works on FLX1, this was fixed in the last update. Did you suspend as well?

@praveen no I didn't suspend. Maybe I have to update though; it's been a few days

@badrihippo I'm not sure if they upstreamed the fix though.

@praveen not working even after upgrade; maybe I can download the package directly (or wait). Calendar alarms work; at least they ring. Maybe I can try the clocks timer too, depending on where the problem was 👀

@badrihippo only FuriOS was updated, this is likely not send upstream to Debian yet. You can try from production.repo.furios.io/ or try rebuilding with that patch from github.com/FuriLabs/gnome-cloc

production.repo.furios.ioIndex of /

@Magess it does! I'm running out of my clear choices whoch has lead me to explore the other not-usually-my-type shows QCODE does 👀

@badrihippo Which ones have you listened to so far?

@Magess off the top of my head: Listening In, Gaslight, The Beautiful Liar, Narcissa, How To Win Friends and Disappear People, Last Known Position, Electric Easy, Dirty Diana

Actually I had to scroll through their list to remember some of the names. I see they've added a few new ones since I last checked 👀

@badrihippo I remember thinking The Burned Photo and AD Lucem were good

@Magess whoa, I don't think I've even heard of those before! Will check them out 👀

@badrihippo Have you checked out any of Realm's shows? IMO they're the next best in audiodramas after QCode.

@Magess yep, I've listened to "Newts!". And I believe "Bullet Catcher" is also by them 🎧

It's my go-to for situations where there's too much ambient noise to do QCODE's 3D surround things justice 😉

@badrihippo there's something to be said for a phone to be really unreachable when suspended. I like the idea.

@jarno haha yeah. Maybe I should file a bug report to make sure they don't fix that 😉

It's actually more or less how it works anyway right? Phones get so flooded with notifications people don't check them unless they're ready anyway so it doesn't matter when the notification actually arrived
