Steven Rosenberg<p>I used to spend time updating individual Toolbox instances with apt or dnf. My new method is to nuke ALL OF THEM and the images that made them and start from scratch with new images on a fairly regular basis.</p><p>Still wondering if I shouldn't just layer Distrobox and make my life (comparatively) easier.</p><p><a href="https://ruby.social/tags/Toolbox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Toolbox</span></a> <a href="https://ruby.social/tags/Toolbx" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Toolbx</span></a> <a href="https://ruby.social/tags/Distrobox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Distrobox</span></a> <a href="https://ruby.social/tags/Fedora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fedora</span></a></p>
seungjin<p>How come nobody told me that Toolbox changed its name to Toolbx?<br><a href="https://mstd.seungjin.net/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> <a href="https://mstd.seungjin.net/tags/toolbx" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>toolbx</span></a> <a href="https://mstd.seungjin.net/tags/fedora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fedora</span></a></p>
Paul Richards<p>Played around with <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/DevContainers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DevContainers</span></a> this morning. It’s nothing you couldn’t do yourself with <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/docker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>docker</span></a> or <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/podman" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>podman</span></a> or <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/toolbx" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>toolbx</span></a> but I have to say the convenience of it and the integration with the IDE makes it extremely easy to get started with compared to building your own containerised dev environment. <a href="https://containers.dev/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">containers.dev/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p>
Steven Rosenberg<p>I think I've been running Fedora Silverblue for three releases now — at least a year and a half — and it is a very solid system.</p><p>Right now I'm happy about recent steps to improve the boot system (bootc) and the introduction of the ptyxis terminal to provide better integration for Toolbx/Distrobox/etc.</p><p>Recent improvements in GNOME — especially in Files — are also nice to see.</p><p><a href="https://ruby.social/tags/Fedora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fedora</span></a> <a href="https://ruby.social/tags/Silverblue" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Silverblue</span></a> <a href="https://ruby.social/tags/AtomicFedora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AtomicFedora</span></a> <a href="https://ruby.social/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://ruby.social/tags/GNOME" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GNOME</span></a> <a href="https://ruby.social/tags/Toolbx" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Toolbx</span></a> <a href="https://ruby.social/tags/ptyxis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ptyxis</span></a></p>
Michael K Johnson<p>I discovered that while my login on my <a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/Silverblue" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Silverblue</span></a> system is in the <code>dialout</code> group, I'm not in the <code>dialout</code> group in my <a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/toolbx" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>toolbx</span></a> container where I have programs installed that need to talk to (USB) serial devices!</p><p>How do I modify an existing toolbx container so that when I <code>toolbox enter</code> into it, my user is in the dialout group?</p>
Gabriel Garrido<p>In another "just works" post on <a href="https://social.coop/tags/fedora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fedora</span></a> 40 <a href="https://social.coop/tags/kde" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>kde</span></a>, I connected my Fujitsu iX500 scanner to my laptop wondering how easy it would be get it working. </p><p>I discovered the sane project, and created a new <a href="https://social.coop/tags/toolbx" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>toolbx</span></a> container running Ubuntu to get it installed. It worked, but I wanted a native GUI. </p><p>Then I discovered that KDE has Skanpage, which immediately recognized the scanner and worked. No need for the additional toolbx container, no need to download Fujitsu's frontend - all great.</p>
