Physicists find superconductor behavior at temperatures once thought 'impossible';
Scientists have observed an unexpected new behavior in a superconducting material. If physicists can figure out the cause, it could help them to find room-temperature superconductors.

Live Science · Physicists find superconductor behavior at temperatures once thought 'impossible'By Ben Turner

BCS superconductors depend on electrons combining into Cooper pairs. I find this phenomenon to be confusing because the electrons in the Cooper pair have equal and opposite momentum. Why don't the electrons in the pair each go their separate way? I found a helpful paper that describes the spatial structure of these Cooper pairs, which are kind of like a giant helium atom where the electron pair cloud surrounds ion lattice oscillations.

An organic material in a metastable phase behaves a little like a room-temperature #superconductor when excited with laser light. Though this behaviour fades almost as quickly as the laser pulse that induces it, the team behind the discovery say that with the right light source, it might be possible to keep the material in its superconducting-like state continuously.
