Paul Jewell<p>Seeing the latest <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/google" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>google</span></a> nonsense with <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/gemini" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gemini</span></a> on <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/android" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>android</span></a>, I guess what I want is a simple phone with a data connection, and a pocket sized linux device or a different OS in my android phone. I can live without pay-by-phone, and I am fed up having to play with the settings to disable things companies feel it is quite OK to add with the default of enabled. I even feel that my preferences would be ignored, and my privacy invaded anyway! Then I need to convince people I contact that WhatsApp is not a solution. I might just become an <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/XMPP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>XMPP</span></a> evangelist (once I have a server and client set up...). I have already set up a discourse instance for my local community band, to encourage less dependence on WhatsApp... </p><p>History & Plan:<br>2020: no more Apple devices<br>2025: (planned) - Microsoft cancellation and windows deletion<br>2025: investigate alternatives to android phone... Since I use a Google Pixel, I guess this could be <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/graphene" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>graphene</span></a>, or <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/postmarketos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>postmarketos</span></a> ...</p>
