Judge temporarily halts Trump from canceling Radio Free Europe, handing embattled broadcasters a lifeline

US District Judge Royce C. Lamberth has granted Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s request for a temporary restraining order.

Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty filed suit last week to contest Trump’s shutdown order, claiming it “would violate the Constitution and federal laws.”

A #WhiteHouse plot to axe international broadcasters #RadioFreeEurope / #RadioLiberty has been foiled after presidential advisor #KariLake was forced to rescind a letter cancelling the network’s grants.

It comes just a day after a judge temporarily halted an attempt by the #Trump administration to shut down the station, claiming it would “violate the #Constitution and federal laws.”

Ich habe mir mein Leben lang eigentlich kaum vorstellen können, einmal die Partei von Journalist:innen zu ergreifen, die für einen, einst von einem US-Geheimdienst gegründeten, Regierungssender arbeiten. Um dort „US-Regierungspropaganda“ zu verbreiten, wäre wohl mein freundlichst formulierter Vorwurf gewesen.

#RadioFreeEurope / #RadioLiberty sued the #Trump admin on Tues to try to block it from terminating all federal funds for the US-backed broadcaster.

In a federal lawsuit, the network argues that the #USAGM has violated the #Constitution & federal laws by withholding money #Congress expressly allocated for the broadcaster. USAGM disburses funds to US-backed international networks, including RFE/RL, that serve foreign lands w/o a free or robust press.
