"Critics of the Trump administration have called this state of affairs a constitutional crisis. I have come to think of it more like a constitutional collapse: long vacant, the vestiges of the US’s democracy are crumbling to the ground, falling like an empty tent. We don’t yet know what, exactly, will be erected in its place."

The reich-wing administration has criticized #Germany's decision to ban #afd the far-right party, after a deep review of their activities.

According to columnist Heather Cox Richardson, Germany's Foreign Office responded thusly:

This is #democracy. The decision is the result of a thorough & independent investigation to protect our #Constitution & the #ruleoflaw. It is independent #courts that will have the final say. We have learnt from our history that #rightwing #extremism needs to be stopped.

Our Founders believed in freedom of #speech, but were alert to the threat of #populism. Some of their attempts to mitigate that threat through representation government worked out reasonably well — separation of powers, the House of Representatives — while others — the Senate, the Electoral College — developed largely as sops to smaller states or slave states, have not.

Jennifer Rubin at The Contrarian explains how Judge Beryl Howell (DC Circuit) threw the book at the Trump regime in her summary judgment overturning the EO against the law firm Perkins Coie.

Rubin also chides the media for failing to point out consistently that EO’s are NOT laws and that most of Trump’s weird pronouncements will turn out to be just so much hot air.

No KingsNo KingsOn June 14—Flag Day—Donald Trump wants tanks in the street and a made-for-TV display of dominance for his birthday. A spectacle meant to look like strength. But real power isn’t staged in Washington. It rises up everywhere else.

Oh look, capitulator #CBS News wrote about Judge Beryl Howell's calling out capitulators

“If the founding history of this country is any guide, those who stood up in court to vindicate constitutional rights and, by so doing, served to promote the rule of law, will be the models lauded when this period of American #history is written.”
