Officials have been using facial recognition to identify people for years w/o knowing if it distorts results for Māori.

This is in memos released under Official Information Act about new Identity Check online verification system the government is developing.

DIA has used biometrics for years for passports and digital citizenship services.

@nzlemming @lightweight started in 1991 so that's 31 years mate! I served on the committee a few years back too. Conference was really good in terms of ideas and a few challenges. Journalist Phil Pennington talked about #IdentityCheck there too
