A couple of idle thoughts on America’s current … *gestures wildly*
While the terms *un-Canadian*, *un-British* and even *un-Chinese* do appear on the internet (doesn’t just about anything?!), are any of them weaponised to the extent of *un-American*?
The term *un-American* is clearly not tethered to any particular ethic (referring instead to geographical and contingently political entities).
Does that not make its frequent use by critics of the current regime feel decidedly weak, given that the regime’s actions, however repugnant, are American by definition?
(There are also parallels here, I think, with the use of the term *un-Christian* to describe actions Christians don’t like, even when they are done by other Christians.)
