Does anybody know a FOSS software/plugin to scan photo slides? I'm thinking about something where we can put several slides on a flat scanner, and it would detect automatically the slide and do the cropping.

In non FOSS, it seems that VueScan does that, but I would like FOSS.

Moving away from the design museum, soon the Vitra Slide Tower by Carsten Höller comes into sight. Unfortunately, at the time of the visit, it was closed.
(I assume everybody who was there took this shot as well.. ;-) )

OK, now for the next shot in this series, which was done in HDR, but then converted to B&W. Even though I've shot this slide whole, but I've decided to crop it in such a way as seen here; taking off part of it into the right edge, as I think it creates more "interest" and tension, and would be a better "anchor" rather than just a picture of a regular spiral slide in the middle of the frame (well, it wasn't exactly in the middle but you get the point).
Managing the tones in B&W wasn't any way easier though and I had to use layer masks to control layers and other things, and even though I've tried to put some Whites in-check, yet some highlights were blown out still. The image, overall, kinda looks like an infrared shot.

It’s an old slide I put on an old iPad 1. Than I photographed it with an old Nikon Makro on a Sony Alpha.

Sounds complicated, in fact it is an easy and cheap way to digitize old slides.
