That said he really wanted Myrna Loy to play Elvira but rat bastard Louis B. Mayer refused to loan her out so Kay Hammond was cast instead

Just streamed it. Archly overacted, & with a simply appalling bit of terrible racism soon after the beginning which almost made me stop it then & there, nonetheless it was a worthwhile watch i believe. For yonks i had heard of it, without knowing anything about it, so went into it tonight completely cold.

There's a great line from Celia Johnson's character which struck me, perhaps more than any other in the movie:
"It's awfully easy to lie when you know that you're trusted implicitly. So very easy and so very degrading."
