A sunny Labor Day on deck, watching the next batch of sun tea brew and listening to movie soundtrack cuts from the likes of Elmer Bernstein. I am a goober in that respect, I s’pose. Meanwhile, Nubs has found another favorite spot to chill in the bay window.

Henry Fonda’s character pretty much sums up the FOTUS and a shit ton of people around him.

Joe Cantwell: I don’t understand you.
William Russell: I know you don't. Because you have no sense of responsibility towards anyone or anything. And that is a tragedy in a man, and a disaster in a president. - Cliff Robertson as presidential candidate Joe Cantwell and Henry Fonda as presidential candidate William Russell in “The Best Man,” 1964
Great book and movie - scary as friggen hell.

Joanne Woodward was so good in one of my favorite westerns. They all were.

That Quentin Tarentino can sure put together a movie soundtrack. I may watch this one tonight (again) - I think it’s one of his best.

Sometimes, when I hear about the stupid bullshit the FOTUS spews about Canada like that country’s never been there to help the U.S. I tend to think about one of the best entrances by a military unit in a movie. Anyone who knows anything about the history of the Canadian Army knows why “Scotland The Brave” is played here.

A favorite scene from what is probably my favorite James Bond flick. Of course, the ‘63 Aston Martin DB5 is the star here.

I just watched Don't Worry Darling and my husband fell asleep before it was over.
It had an interesting premise but didn't quite stick the landing.
It's not a movie I'd recommend but it's also not one I would flag people away from. There are better and there are worse out there. 6/10
It would definitely be a prime candidate for my "acceptable to make a remake of" list. The qualifications are:
Good bones
Mishandled execution of the original
Cannot be a cult classic
Also, we could fix the egg foley wrongness. Not sure when I became a foley snob but that's the world we're living in now I guess.

Good analysis. Standalone crowd pleasers are great but complex jigsaw puzzles of canon across mixed media? Not so much.

40 frickin’ years. Friends of mine and I went to see the flick at a theater in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska (there’s a rockin town!) the first weekend it opened nationwide.

I find myself developing a passion for these old Hollywood movies. There's an earnestness and a passion that fills my cup. Thinking and learning about how the films were made is an additional and worthwhile benefit - a lot has been written and said about them.
My ★★★½ review of Spartacus on Letterboxd https://boxd.it/9sduyn
Never seen it and I'm settling in to watch Spartacus (1960).
Starring Kirk Douglas and directed by Stanley Kubrick it's been in my pile of shame for a long time.
Now that the Oscars have a stunt category, TimeOut asks the best stunt people "which stunts are the best of all time"?
Some great bios and analysis with embedded YT of the stunts.

The 1997 James Cameron film “Titanic” was OK when it came to some of the historical perspective (and I actually kinda like the Celine Dion tune) but I definitely prefer this version from nearly 40 years before. The book by Walter Lord that it’s based on is also really good.
