One thing I love doing as a designer is creating things that others can explore, talk about and that, hopefully spark ideas and questions.

Recently I've been exploring some things with @loops and @supapp and I'm pretty excited to share with the community here! Especially @dansup who's the mastermind behind these beautiful things getting started!! 👏🔥 Thanks sooo much, I've been really enjoying them in my life. 😄

I'm sharing cuz I'm trying to figure out how to support open source projects as a designer and this is my latest. Anyone who wants to explore (and especially dansup) check out the Figma files below. After that, let's talk about them on here, matrix, or XMPP. Thanks for being such an incredible community, looking forward to connecting more on these things!!

(I have some ideas for Pixelfed too, but I'm gonna start with these and see what happens. 🙌)

If you haven't tried #WikiTok yet, why not?!

The web app is a great demonstration of how a common design pattern can be used to enable a different experience

In this case, instead of algorithmic recommendations designed to keep you engaged, you get random articles that might just inspire you to learn something new

And if don't see something interesting, it's hard not to keep scrolling for something that does stop you in your tracks

Here's how to avoid make things worse for users when introducing #DarkMode to any app (or product) experience

As aside, this is another scenario where a #DesignSystem makes things much easier to manage

Without one in place, converting to dark mode requires each screen to be careful assessed & adjusted which is a costly and time-consuming exercise

Nielsen Norman GroupDark Mode: How Users Think About It and Issues to AvoidDark mode is popular, but not essential. Users like dark mode but maintain similar behaviors without it. They think about it at the system level, not the application level. If you choose to support dark mode, test your design to avoid common dark-mode issues.

"Many modern websites are designed with a mobile-first approach. When these pages render on desktop devices, the content can appear overly large and stretched out. Screen-covering images, large bloated text, and excessive negative space result in long pages requiring more scrolling to consume all content."

My client has complained about exactly this to the Graphic Designers on our project.

Nielsen Norman GroupThe Negative Impact of Mobile-First Web Design on DesktopMobile-first web designs cause significant usability issues when viewed on desktop. Content becomes overly dispersed across long scrolling pages with expansive white space and enlarged images and fonts, making it difficult for users to consume and understand the information.
