Behold, the intellectual marvel that combines the collective wisdom of #Wikipedia with the cutting-edge dance moves of #TikTok, resulting in the unparalleled phenomenon of #WikiTok 🤦‍♂️. It's like watching a TED Talk through a Snapchat filter, brought to you by the geniuses at Aizks Site. Prepare to be both enlightened and bewildered by this #fusion nobody asked for. 📚🕺

Love my #WikiTok
Got Graeber's Direct Action's ethnographic study at approx. 10th suggestion. Clicked "Read more". Wiki page I landed on isn't much of a page, but gave me enough to want to venture out and "read more" elsewhere.
Thank you #wikitok
Please someone make #wikitok work in French too? Please?

I just installed #WikiTok. Love the idea.
Changed language to French.
First click led to "Bad Title, requested page is empty...."
Of course, it's looking for a French page on the En site.
Sad.
Switching back to English!
Still, sad.

If you haven't tried #WikiTok yet, why not?!

The web app is a great demonstration of how a common design pattern can be used to enable a different experience

In this case, instead of algorithmic recommendations designed to keep you engaged, you get random articles that might just inspire you to learn something new

And if don't see something interesting, it's hard not to keep scrolling for something that does stop you in your tracks

Replied in thread

The neverending hooks into eyeballs aspect of #TikTok is utterly repellent to me. Keep that addictive zombifying surveillance crap away, please.

Especially awful is the auto-playing video, and the brain-button-mashing attention-grabbing insistence of them.

This project is much more appealing:

#WikiTok[…], feeds visitors a random list of Wikipedia articles—culled from the Wikipedia API—into a vertically scrolling interface.

“[…], there are currently no videos involved. […] If you see something you like, you can tap "Read More," and the full Wikipedia page on the topic will open in your browser.”
