#hashtags

Your regular reminder to use hashtags.

I feel that people use hashtags less and less.
More hashtags would allow, among many other things, to avoid people having arguments such as:

"Use a CW!!"
"I won't use a CW to describe my life!"
"If you're not happy, block me!"
"Fine, I'll block you." and so on...

Just use relevant hashtags. It allows both people who want to hear more about a topic to hear more about it (You know that you can follow hashtags on many Fediverse platforms, right?) and people who don't want to hear about a topic to filter it (why this obsession with blocking each other? When you can mute topics, or well... people too...)

@DvorakNZ You can find accounts you want to follow by using #hashtags. Use them in your Profile (where you list your interests) and posts, and people interested in those hashtags may notice you and follow you. You can even follow hashtags, which sends to your home feed all the posts that include any of the followed hashtags.

#Introduction with a billion #hashtags...

I'm Alba, a
#trans #nonbinay #bisexual #autistic #vegan #antifascist #activist from #Nijmegen, #NL. In addition to my #autism, I've also got #ADHD, #hyperlexia, related auditory processing and executive function issues, #aphantasia and #SDAM (Severely Deficient Autobiographical Memory). I'm an IT #tech at a large #international company, a volunteer for the #radical #intersectional #anticapitalist #political party #BIJ1 and a freelance #translator. I speak #Nederlands, #français, #English, #Deutsch and #Esperanto. I play #saxophone - I have a bari sax, a tenor sax and a soprano sax. I also have a #flute and a #ukelele but I don't play those nearly as well as the saxes. I love playing #TTRPG like #DnD5e and #PF2e, and I have two #cats, an orange slonk called Hobbes and a void chonk called Nita.

I used to hang out on mastodon.lol until early 2023 when that instance shut down. I then moved to todon.nl and recently decided to hop on to blahaj.zone

I don't understand why people make up #hashtags (except for a brand new campaign) when the whole point of hashtags is to index posts using identical tags.

Irrelevant/unused tags and absurdly long, improbable ones ( #TrumpIsADastardlyCriminalAndALiar ) are the reason people consider them spammy and don't use them. This is especially detrimental on a platform where tags are essential for muting/following topics.

Think before you tag.

#Medien & #Politiker, hört auf, euch von amerikanischer #SocialMedia die #Themen vorkauen zu lassen.
Die #Trolle von #Putin, #Trump, #Musk & Co. danken für euer Echo.

I don't need CW; I'm finding filters sufficient.

It's a tough question. I strongly agree that engaging with the world we find ourselves in is our shared responsibility.

And yet: offensiveness is subjective. Why is it *obviously* appropriate to CW sex and violence, topics that not everyone wants or needs a warning for?

There's a difference between offense and damage. Framing the question as preferences, or what might offend, makes it easier to ignore the people who say lack of CW harms them. Just as framing masking as a courtesy makes it easier to ignore the folks who say your exhalations might kill them.

When someone says "I need X to protect myself," a reply that sounds like "Y is perfectly adequate.. you shouldn't need X," strikes me as all kinds of wrong. It smacks of "Well, why don't you just.."

I expect I'll be inconsistent about my use of CW vs. tags. But I'm not going to be offended by being asked (either generally or directly) to put some stuff behind CWs.
