Is it bad that I keep thinking about switching to Arch?
I run Debian Sid with Experimental and build most the packages I use from git or cargo and run the mainline kernel. I'm well versed in how Debian operates and its file system.
How stable is Arch these days? Can it run for years without needed to be wiped?
@tripplehelix I'd say it doesn't need to be wiped, have a years old system that still works. However it needed fixing from time to time after updating or in my case sometimes windows doing something with bootloader. To me it feels like slightly higher maintenance than Debian but definitely usable and the structural concept agrees a bit more with me. Also if you use a "managed arch" like manjaro it becomes a bit stabler still on average.
This is anecdotal and opinion just from my experience.
@neurocturnal @tripplehelix I use Debian and Arch Linux on different machines for different use cases. Arch is imho very stable. But on installation i always select Linux-LTS-Kernels.
@tripplehelix All of my arch installs have lasted for years. It's only when I get a new drive or machine that I do a fresh install. The rare times that updates have broken something it's always been related to nvidia drivers, which surprises nobody.
