I'm a #python programmer by day, and by night I do whatever I am currently obsessed with. My obsessions, in no particular order include:
#wiki software, #gamedev, #keyboards, #robots, #circuitpython, #micropython, #tinwhistle, #ocarina, #drawing, #webdesign, #typography, #visualdesign, #industrialdesign, #electronics, #boardgames, #minipainting, #usability, #handhelds, #rcheli, #roguelike
@deshipu
So Risk of Rain 2?
@s31bz No, why?
@deshipu
It's a fantastic roguelike
@s31bz Which part of it exactly is "like Rogue"?
@deshipu
The fact that your adventure towards one of various end game bosses is over when you die?
@s31bz There are no bosses in Rogue. Also, it's a turn-based dungeon crawler with ascii display, not some 3D shooter.
@deshipu
Roguelike
@s31bz Well, not the kind that I make. Anyways.
@deshipu
I encourage thee to look up the #roguelike game genre and explore the games in it these days
@deshipu
Regardless of the semantics surrounding how one defines the term Roguelike, there are very many fun games within the genre on Steam
@s31bz I'm sure there are, and you are very welcome to enjoy them.
I am, however, attracted to roguelike game development because of their relative simplicity of implementation, their high replayability (even if you write it yourself and know it inside out), and their interesting challenges in random world generation and monster behavior algorithms.
I'm certainly not interested in spending hundreds of work hours on an AAA game with slightly randomized loot boxes.
