One of my last (if not last) #cycling rides of 2021
I fully equipped my hybrid/urban bike for winter. Studded 700c x 38 winter tires, partial mud guards. The rear one for a MTB didn't fit, so I made a makeshift one from cardboard. When my local shop opens back, I'll get a proper one.
I tested my bike commute, 19km (12mi) round trip at -6°C (21°F), it went well. The bike paths have been plowed, a packed snow trail allows me to cross safely between two boulevards.
This is a bridge along the path that crosses a park between two boulevards, the path is about 1 km long. It ends up at a street light, going straight to the other side is a low trafic residential street. After a couple of other streets, there's a bicycle lane that goes up to about 1 km from my work place. Apart from this last section on an industrial avenue, the commute is quite safe.
I'll probably go back to remote work starting January 3rd, but maybe I'll have the opportunity to try this commute for real before the end of winter.
