Here is my new GNU/Linux distribution guide about Debian KDE 12, the right GNU/Linux distribution for professional digital painting in 2024! Also about three major problems with GNU/Linux distros that will drive away all professional artists, IMO, and how I got kicked out of the Fedora KDE ecosystem with F40, which imposed Plasma6 and Wayland. I hope it helps other artists here!

@davidrevoy I really wish we could make building Krita easier... For the Qt6 port, I'm actually using only distribution packages to see how far I can get. But working with the upstread Qt project can be really hard, and we need sooooo many patches to make Qt work well on all four platforms we support!
@halla Hey, take the time you need for the Qt6 port, I now have a home to run Krita as it is until 2028. I remember the old ports in the past (Qt3 to Qt4, etc) and how they are massive work. Take care!
@davidrevoy @halla Porting Calligra from Qt5 to Qt6 took me 4 evenings. The transition is a lot easier than previous major Qt updates. The biggest pain was QRegExp.
@carlschwan @davidrevoy I have a lot more problems -- some might be because Long Covid has made me stupid -- but others might be because Calligra hasn't been maintained or developed for many years now, so it's mostly still pretty simple.
I've only spent a couple of afternoons now, and I am already running into compilation errors I simply don't get.
Again, it might just be me...
@halla @davidrevoy if you have a branch with your work, I can take a look in the coming days :)
@carlschwan @davidrevoy Hi! The branch is work/rempt/qt6 -- I haven't gotten very far, though.
I'm working against KDE neon distro packages for this, instead of first updating our Qt-based patched dependencies.
