Illinois bans native plants bans. Take that, HOAs.
This is the second Ban ban Illinois has passed, the first being the ban on book banning.
Well this got nearly triple the attention it had when I went to bed, so I'll add a note for people who didn't read past the headline.
The legislators were careful to specify plants native to Illinois. So not Colorado Blue Spruce (though who would ban that), but yes to Virginia Creeper (obviously state names aren't the signifiers you'd think they are).
On the other hand, height restrictions are right out, which were a nuisance rule often used.
This made the bill easier to pass.
What the what?
If you're amazed at the temerity of HOAs, just searching on the phrase "HOA stories" will show that native plant bans are the least of HOA nonsense.
If you're able to, never buy a home under an HOA.
