A guy on YouTube switched his Linux distro from Debian to Arch because he said Neovim on Debian is outdated. He'd be better off learning how to install from source and package it himself before switching to another distro. He may end up spending his entire life switching Linux distros rather than actually learning #Linux.

@seungjin I see many people for whom distro hopping is an unacknowledged addition which prevents them from getting anytbing done.

That said, you can and should expect everything to be “outdated” on Debian. It’s kind of a primary feature. You get just security updates. No major software changes otherwise in the base packages.

@ianthetechie Overcoming those outdated Debian packaging issues is quite enjoyable. I still use Debian for all my VPS servers when possible, and it was my main work desktop before I switched to an immutable OS. With containers available these days, keeping Debian tooling up to date is easier than ever. It seems many people don’t want to learn Linux the hard way; they want a Windows(or Mac)-like experience on Linux
