Built and ready to experiment with firmware - need to make a display driver possibly with hardware scrolling, possibly with DMA, disabling both the backlight and the display itself in power-saving mode, fonts, then decisions on layout.... then keyboard and bouncin.... then the actual brains of the calculator:)
A lot of fun. BUT! The ground has thawed to the depth of a shovel, you have to dig and plant and dig again. I am extremely inactive in the spring in terms of hobbies:)
The B35APO Computer Architectures course based on #riscv and our #qtrvsim simulator reached new (re)usability level, updated slides in the LaTeX Beamer format for lecture 1 to 10 are translated to English, PDF, CC-BY-SA Slide Sources at #cvut FEE GitLab and on GitHub. The feedback, corrections, suggestion, reuse and cooperation are welcomed. The lectures recording are available on community driven PeerTube server https://vhsky.cz/w/p/8Ejstt3Tfh8mWGcjQcEL2S and CTU FEE B35APO YouTube List. The online site with links to more related courses and on-line QtRvSim WASM application https://comparch.edu.cvut.cz/ allows even online evaluation of simple #riscv assembly and C exercises.
I'm still sad that SophGo wasn't able to ship the SG2380 https://community.milkv.io/t/introducing-the-milk-v-oasis-with-sg2380-a-revolutionary-risc-v-desktop-experience/780
As far as I know, this means the SiFive P670 is still complete unobtanium, and here we are fully 2.5 years on from its marketing launch.

Here is the desktop set up on the Mango Pi Pro #RISCV #SBC. As mentioned earlier it is running minimal #LXDE on top of a vanilla install of #Ubuntu server 24.10.
I have peeled back a few things, such as audio since the basic Ubuntu install does not have the stuff to run #HDMI #audio (I could do look into this more but eh). I will do some more tinkering with the ISO from the official Mango Pi website. Lets see how that goes
Currently I am playing around with the Mango Pi Quad (#ARM) and the Mango Pi Pro (#RISCV) and doing a few comparisons.
Both have minimal #LXDE set ups and both have identical 1gig ram modules. On the Quad I am running #Debian 12 and on the Pro I am running #Ubuntu 24.10. So not necessarily and apple to apples compassion. But what I find interesting is that there is only a 13ish percent difference in #RAM use. The Quad after start up hovers around 25.1% ram use while the Pro hovers around 38.9%.
Maybe RISCV will catch up sooner than later with ARM. More random thoughts to come. Both are fun lil #SBC if you can get a hold of them.
Muse Pi Pro is a Raspberry Pi-sized RISC-V PC with M.2 and mPCIe sockets
The Muse Pi Pro is a credit card-sized computer with a RISC-V processor, an AI accelerator, support for up to 16GB of LPDDR5x-2400 RAM, and up to 128GB of eMMC 5.1 onboard storage. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
While the little computer is the same size as a Raspberry Pi Model B, it has onboard M.2 and mPCIe sockets that let you add an SSD or cellular modem, as well as MIPI-CSI and […]

i am really excited to be able to teach "digital literacy" inside our program about "future skills" inside @haufegroup
we will build a gemini capsule using pi picos, and iterate incremental until full yunohosting a piece of the fediverse at home. all while touching solarpunk ethics and free software.

RISC-V With Linux 6.15 Adds Support For BFloat16 "BF16" Instructions | @phoronix
All parts of the calculator body are printed from wooden PLA, all boards and blocks are soldered. What remains to be written is the firmware #riscv #ch32v003 including the display drivers (along with software backlight adjustment) and the keyboard driver, based halfway through @RueNahcMohr 's ideas.

Anyway, the fun part begins
I don’t plan on buying more x86 CPUs, but I will if necessary. Hopefully, I can keep using the ones I already have. My goal is for my next daily-driver CPU to be RISC-V. My Ky-X1 is for development; it’s not quite ready to be a daily driver yet, I suppose.
