The thing with #ThePrisoner is that it is clear what the aim is from the first few episodes. But later episodes seem more confused.

The concept is like let's put James Bond into a surreal fantasy village that has a distinct 1984 flavour.

Then it appears to be an allegory of something; of modern life, of inside the mind, of religion, of politics; but it is never clear what, nor was it intended to be clear.

My problem is that some things that happen don't seem to have any particular meaning, or are very opaque, and some episodes are dreary and feel more nonsensical than allegory.

I think it was a mistake for McGoohan to not decide who Number 1 was going to be from the start. I think if he had done that, the events in the episodes would have had a touch more coherence, giving the ideas more weight, and the narrative would have continually led towards Number 1.
