Four Quarters - NGAIO
Throughout the EP, NGAIO combines West African percussion and Bristol’s trip-hop influences with jazz, dub and soulful lyricism to create a sound that is truly innovative. A deeply personal and introspective journey, it reflects NGAIO’s exploration of identity, cultural heritage, and the challenges of expressing oneself authentically in a world often resistant to alternative perspectives.

Universal Sounds of America Review by Thom Jurek
..Numerous cuts here employ the word "space" in their titles and one references it directly. Belgrave, Reid, Morris and the Art Ensemble all had titles reissued on the Universal Sound label (and Reid recorded afresh for Soul Jazz). While the focus here is on the diversity of, to borrow a term from the AEC, "Great Black Music Ancient to the Future," it is deeply rooted in '70s out jazz, with only Belgrave and Morris providing deeper, wider visions. Morris' ..."Kitty Bey" replies on modal jazz and Latin rhythms to get his killer track across. Likewise, Sanders uses an electric piano to position himself in space on the gorgeous "Astral Traveling," and Belgrave take nearly ten with his "Space Odyssey," that reflects on funk, electronic abstraction and Detroit soul-jazz to get his rather elegant point across.."

lou donaldson - here ‘tis
Tone Poet Society release of this 1961 session from Donaldson (sax), Grant Green (guitar), "Baby Face" Willette (organ), and Dave Bailey (drums) has a heavy emphasis on blues and soul-jazz, with some hard bop.
Lots of good moments, and although I tend to prefer piano/bass in there rather than organ, Willette's playing is hard to dismiss.

Soul Stream is the second album by American saxophonist George Braith recorded in 1963 and released on the Blue Note label.
The Allmusic review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine awarded the album 4 stars and stated "Soul Stream finds George Braith coming into his own. Where his debut felt hampered by uneven material and unsure execution of Braith's trademark double-sax attack, Soul Stream is confident and assured... Unfortunately, Braith never truly cuts loose, but there's enough provocative material and cerebral grooves on Soul Stream to make it a worthwhile listen"

More Alice on a Sunday afternoon.
The 3 “Galaxy” pieces here are wonderfully batshit crazy. Particularly “Galaxy In Satchidananda”, which clocks in at just over 10 mins.

Day 14 (Jan 14): SOARING HIGH! – "Blue City / Night Calls"
A mysterious, delicious funk/fusion track with a few surprises! I tried to let my inhibitions go, allow the muse to lead the way. Whatever the hell that means A vague smell of (dare I say it??) 70s Quincy/Herbie.
I tried to create an organic, slightly off-kilter groove – rhythm should be loose and natural. Be sure to make it to the middle section!
Day 13 (Jan 13): IT'S A BREEZE – "On the Island (Where's the Lick??)"
Well, it's got a bossa beat and #theLick, so who are you to complain??
This was NOT what I had planned, but I'm happy about where it went. This little #souljazz #bossa groove put me in a good mood; which is great, because I was a *little* grumpy when my fat synthwave number didn't get the traction I was hoping for. Lather, rinse, repeat!
