Monday evening listening:
”KAPITAL” by #Laibach

Released in 1992 this album is packed with techno-industrial tunes with a hint of jungle/d’n’b influences thrown in. At times very 1990’s sounding and even danceable but not in a bad way. Heavy use of sampling and many tracks are instrumental. Nice economic (heh) and minimal production throughout. Many of the songs are built around two or three samples.

Very interesting concept and theme, as always is the case with Laibach. Plenty of good tracks but ”Young Europa” and ”Wirtschaft ist tot” stand out particularly. Apparently the vinyl, cassette and cd versions all have different edits of the tracks. Well I think I'm satisfied with this cd version.

For those of you with a musicological bent Laibach played two sets of PRECISELY 45 minutes each separated by PRECISELY 15 minutes of intermission. The first set was less well known material and the second was basically Opus Dei. Prior to the first set there was precisely 1.5 hours of a two bar loop. There was quite a lot of free improvisation (especially in set one).

Highlight for me surprisingly was THE ENGINE OF SURVIVAL which was the start of the encores but it was all good, all the time youtu.be/WXbXs0pYuog?si=sUn8tB

I don’t go to too many gigs, so I try to be selective (last three were Laibach, Laurie Anderson and Sigur Rós).

Still reeling from last night’s gig. Unusually for me I was right up at the front, one row back. Not too deaf although the bass was ruffling my trousers at times. #Laibach
