ELMIRE: However high the passion which inflames us, Still, to confess its power somehow shames us.

Willingness to Compete in Dirty Competitions https://d.repec.org/n?u=RePEc:iza:izadps:dp17676&r=&r=exp "… a substantial proportion of participants are willing to engage in dirty behavior. Across conditions, 30-40% of participants enhance their chances of winning by #sabotaging their opponent or #lying about their performance. But note that this also means that in each condition, a majority of participants refrain from playing dirty, either by not entering the competition or by competing cleanly. … women, higher-educated people, and older people are less willing to engage in dirty competition … People with a higher willingness to engage in dirty #competition (and lower aversion to dirty play by others) are more likely to work in a management position and less likely to work in the public sector. … a willingness to play dirty may be individually profitable, leading to upward mobility in corporate environments, it also seems to come at a social and psychological cost. People with a higher willingness to engage in dirty competition have fewer close contacts and lower self-esteem, and are more likely to experience feelings of #guilt and #shame." #ExperimentalEcon#BehavioralEconomics
Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München: Philosophy: cultural differences in exploitation of artificial agents. “People in the United States and Europe take advantage of robots significantly more often than people in Japan. The researchers suggest this difference stems from guilt: In the West, people feel remorse when they exploit another human but not when they exploit a machine. In Japan, […]
My job would be a lot easier if, rather than critiquing people I disagree with based on their words and actual views, I employed guilt-by-association headlines and wildly uncharitable, speculative assertions about what secretly drives them psychologically. -- Conor Friedersdorf (@conor64)
How and when he got off is a mystery cause these things ain't discussed in polite society
Bumped into a blind man peddling batteries after he was granted his self release
Did riding the Xpress cost you your sight!” Hank cried, “Should I call the Morality Police?”
The blind man raised his calloused hand and with a toothless grin proclaimed, “Loving yourself should never be a crime so let go of self induced #guilt and shame”
The Hankster took those words to heart
Now he rides freely with a clear head
Never let hypocrites jerk you around or make you feel ashamed about the human you are
“Love your enemies” (Mt 5:44). This does not mean feeling sympathy or affection for those who have harmed us. Rather, it means refusing to hate, seeking no revenge, and being willing to do good to those who do not love us or have wronged us. It means loving with the same love with which God loves us.
Loving an enemy should not be confused with the demand that the guilty party be held accountable before a court of law.
This is not hypocrisy.
One may still feel antipathy and rejection toward the wrongdoer, but one chooses to go beyond feelings—deciding not to seek revenge or harbor hatred, and, if necessary, even to do good to them and pray for them. This is a gift from God.
Love for one’s enemy does not exclude but rather presupposes the need for the guilty party to face justice.

The Master did himself these vessels frame, Why should he cast them out to scorn and shame? If he has made them well, why should he break them? Yea, though he marred them, they are not to blame.
If you are in the Palm Desert area on March 28, please consider coming to the Joslyn Center where I'll be talking about #Alzheimer's: #Grief, #Guilt, #Memory, and #love. I will discuss the many years it took to get the diagnosis of early-onset Alzheimer's, his suffering, our pain, what I wish I knew when he was sick, & the importance of sharing our experiences.

I like #bujo#bulletjournal but I've had trouble combining it with my digital calendar. I also have #adhd and #bipolar so I need an even more flexible setup with less #guilt than many I've seen. Here's the current status. I *only* have index, projects and weekly spread. There is not much space for each day, so I easily feel like I've achieved something. There is a big block for "maybe". I love the "maybe" block. Any time I do something from there it feels like a bonus proud moment.
All through the Christian ages, and especially since the French Revolution, the Western world has been haunted by the idea of freedom and equality; it is only an idea, but it has penetrated to all ranks of society. The most atrocious injustices, cruelties, lies, snobberies exist everywhere, but there are not many people left who can regard these things with the same indifference as, say, a Roman slave-owner. Even the millionaire suffers from a vague sense of guilt, like a dog eating a stolen leg of mutton. Nearly everyone, whatever his actual conduct may be, responds emotionally to the idea of human brotherhood.

Expropriation from the European Jews transfered properties billions worth. From then on, the grabbed money and wealth mostly followed laws of ownership and capitalism. Only in #Germany, they grew into companies and assets in the realm of between €300 billion and €1 trillion.
In their book , Katharina and Zachary #Gallant write: "Hitler didn't produce Zyklon-B and profit off of its use in the murder of millions: Degesh, Degussa, Henkel, and IG Faben did. Hitler didn't rip the shares of major companies from their Jewish owners, … major German businesses did… And it wasn't Hitler who took over houses and properties that had belonged to Jews through Aryanization, it was everyday Germans, many of whose families still live in those homes today."
Quite often, the peddling of a conspiracy theory is a form of confession: a window into how a suspicious mind thinks the world works. -- The Economist (Editorial 2/3/18)
#Black people are #oppressed when #white people act out the #oppression. Oppression isn't something that just happens to people. My forebears built some hefty #systems of oppression, but these systems still need buy-in to keep going.
In computer systems, we use the word #privilege to describe the level of #access a user has. Whether they can #read a file. Whether they can #update a file.
Our #government is updated by #elections. By #voters. For most of #USA history, Black people did not have update access to government. This is not Black history, this is #USHistory.
When you research Black history, remember this is our shared history.
These are the stories about our #nation. Many of these are like the #family stories that are told in whispers. Bad things that were done by people that we're related to.
When people say that they don't want this taught because it will make their #children feel bad about themselves, they usually mean one of two things:
- /they/ feel bad about this #evil themselves, and they feel the kind of #guilt that they want to hide from. They want their kids to remain #innocent about the evil in the world, especially this kind
or
- they /don't/ feel bad about these #evils and they do /not/ want to be #judged by their children
