GLEN CAMPBELL
Rhinestone Cowboy
1975 Canada pressing
For some reason, I’ve had Glen Campbell in my head all day. So it was inevitable that I’d put this on at some point tonight.
There’s a song on here that has always been my favorite Glen Campbell song, and it’s not “Rhinestone Cowboy” (though that’s a great song).
“Country Boy (You Got Your Feet In L.A.)” transports me back to being 5 years old, in my uncle’s garage, where he kept his 20+ vintage cars. He would wipe them down with a hilariously oversized adult diaper, while that song (and other Glen songs) echoed at full volume.
I’m not sure why country music was so important to my many aunts and uncles. It’s not like Massachusetts was a hotbed of western activity. My mother was the youngest of 15(!) kids, and ALL of them had a deep love of country.
Only some of it stuck to me, and Glen definitely stuck.
