Parents, this is how you know you've got a great kid. Most parents track their child's educational achievements when they're younger, and financial achievements when they're older. Yes, education extremely important, and financial freedom is something we all strive towards.

However, this is the metric of "success" that really matters. Having a big heart.

My nephew wanted to pick up all the dog toys from the yard, and "give em to camby" because I explained to him that Camber was no longer with us and this is the place he's sleeping now. 😭

Amanda thanks for giving me the coolest most loving nephew I could ask for. 🥰

Raison de vivre
Companion animals - a reason for living

For many dog owners the companionship of dogs is often
“literally the only reason to survive,
to get up, to still keep going.
It gives them a reason to get up,
a reason to get out,
a reason to move around and
be in contact a little bit with the world outside."

Pet dogs pose significant threat to wildlife and ecosystems

"Many owners simply don't realize the environmental damage dogs can cause, from disturbing wildlife to polluting ecosystems...Others may feel their individual actions won't make a difference, leading to a 'tragedy of the commons' where shared spaces like beaches and woodlands suffer cumulative degradation."

The environmental impacts of man’s best friend
We give a free pass to dogs and their owners

Study "highlighted the impacts of the world’s “commonest large carnivore” in killing and disturbing native wildlife, particularly shore birds."

A "study of animals taken to the Australia Zoo wildlife hospital found that mortality was highest after dog attacks, which was the second most common reason for admission after car strikes."

"The researchers attributed the extent of the environmental impacts to the sheer number of dogs globally, as well as “the lax or uninformed behaviour of dog owners. A lot of what we’re talking about can be ameliorated by owners’ behaviour... pointing out that low compliance with leash laws was a problem."

“If nothing else, pick up your own dog shit."

#UK: Warning as #BirdFlu found in dead gull

by Sarah Turnnidge, April 2, 2025

"A warning has been issued after a confirmed case of bird flu was found in a wild herring gull.

"#Devizes Town Council has urged dog owners to take care after the bird was found dead in the town with H5N1 Avian Influenza as part of ongoing surveillance work.

"In a post on social media a spokesperson for the local authority confirmed #Wiltshire Council had been notified of the finding by the Animal and Plant Health Agency (3APHA).

"The public have been told to avoid touching dead or sick wild birds, their #feathers, or surfaces contaminated by #BirdDroppings.

"#DogOwners should keep their pets on leads and use footpaths, the APHA said, with people who keep poultry or other birds advised to wash their hands and #disinfect footwear after handling.

"The Health Security Agency has said the risk to public health is very low. [But remember -- it is deadly for cats, and can be passed from humans to cats].

"A spokesperson for Devizes Town Council said: 'We will continue to monitor the situation and keep the public informed of any developments.'

Dog shit etiquette

"I’ve seen full bags tied to low-hanging branches and kids’ play equipment."

"The person who ties the bag on to a low-hanging branch of a street tree (disturbingly common) or leaves it on a car bonnet or on top of – or in – letterboxes. I’ve also seen full bags of dog poo tied to kids’ play equipment in the park and to fence palings. I’ve occasionally seen them left on the sea wall of the small, off-leash beach near me – right next to the bin."

One woman "was bagging the poo her dog had just laid on the nature strip in a blue plastic bag. Because her back was to me she had not seen me when she tied the bag up and promptly tossed it over the low front fence on to the middle of the front lawn of the house she’d halted in front of. "

Dog owners in Bellingen just let their canines off leash to dump their faeces on other people's gardens or wildlife habitat.
