I was just starting this when the sad news of #CormacMcCarthy’s passing broke.
I enjoy all his work & return to it often, but #BloodMeridian is his masterpiece - poetic, savage, & profound. I’ve read this a few times now & there are images I just cannot shake. And the Judge is perhaps his most compelling and inscrutable antagonist.
The final third through to it’s devastating conclusion is just masterful. Perfect even. & finishing it just now, man, it still hits.

If you ever forced me to name my favorite book of all time, it would be #BloodMeridian by #CormacMcCarthy. What earthshaking, life-altering dangerous gorgeous bloody big brutal time-echoing soul-haunting piece of work. Forever shook after first reading it. And a close second was #Suttree. A distant third: #theRoad . What a giant we lost today. RIP.
This really makes me sad. RIP Cormac - you were the best.
Lesser known fact, #RidleyScott bought the rights to #BloodMeridian, but he never produced it, because it would be too difficult to re-create McCarthy’s achievement
