The Golden Age Girls: An examination of ageing in comics via Cliff Chiang’s Catwoman Lonely City, Jaime Hernandez Locas and Alison Bechdel’s The Secrets of Superhuman Strength.

Today in Writing History September 10, 1960: Alison Bechdel, American author and illustrator was born. She is most famous for her “Dykes to Watch Out For,” comic strip. And for her “Bechdel Test,” originally intended as a joke in one of her comics, but which has since become a routine metric used by critics as an indicator for the active presence of women in a film.

$20 Half Price Books pickup- #AlisonBechdel . #DanPiraro and The Bradleys possibly signed by #PeterBagge. There is a signed edition of 900 of this book but the examples I've seen on eBay are signed P Bagge and say 900. Not sure if this is really signed or something else but for the price I'm happy.
I just finished reading Fun Home my Alison Bechdel today.
It was beautiful, insightful, a mix of realism, unreality, and critique, and not fun.
Must graphic novels specifically, and all media generally, be fun? I don't think so. But this was a slog; a dispassionate introspection which was too close to one's own personal experience.
