why is the youtube recommendation system so bad. so much money, top of the field software eng and ai researchers, can't create an algorithm that works..

@yshui You do have a point there. Dunno then. Perhaps it works well enough for the normies and makes enough money, so it's okay to not optimise it for corner case weirdos like you (and me, and most of us here in the Fedi really).
