Building a social network seems a bit difficult when trying to add folks from another server. I follow their profile to their home server to check their network. To follow someone, I have to sign in to that server. The alternative is a cut/paste of their URI to search on my server.
Any suggestions?
@rmerriam I do agree that as compared with Twitter, #following people seems like it requires far too much fiddling about, when that is the whole point of the thing.
@rmerriam This usually only happens for toots/servers that your current instance doesn't know about. The easiest, I found, is to type their name (@name@instance) into the search bar, skipping the URL copy-paste.
Once you give your own instance a bit of time to fetch new messages from the person you follow, you should be able to browse their profile without leaving your own instance just fine - and also see their boosts and replies without leaving.
