Not surprised. This is the final step in enshitification.
Lure people in with low prices/easy tech, etc. Slowly strangle with DRM. then make it so you can't leave Amazon and take your books with you.

@jwilker @bookstodon before purchasing any ebooks from Amazon I always do an internet search for the book. Rarely do I find any other option to buy it, with or without DRM. Amazon have completely consumed the market. Not purchasing any authors that only use Amazon isn't a realistic option in my experience.
If anybody has *any* suggestions for where to buy a wide selection of eBooks that isn't Amazon, I'm open to suggestions.
@pauby @jwilker @bookstodon all of my ebooks are alao available via Apple Books, Barnes & Noble, Google Play, Kobo (including Kobo Plus), Smashwords, Eden Books, Tolino, public library apps. Check for your favorite authors on those platforms. However, if your favorite authors are on Kindle Unlimited (KU), then they are exclusive to Amazon and won't be found on those other platforms.
@pauby @bookstodon With the exception of stuff in Kindle Unlimited I've never had trouble finding stuff on Kobo.
Occassionally I'll come across something that isn't exclusive, but the publisher or author was just too lazy to upload elsewhere.
That said, between Kobo and libraries, I've never had an issue. And much of the Kobo offerings are DRM free, except of course the bigger trad offerings. But their DRM is laughable.
