I'm trying to refurbish an old laptop (dell vostro 1500, with a core 2 duo) into a reliable and dumb proof retrogaming console to let into the family vacation home so kids in relatives families could play

I chose FreeBSD after seeing alpine was lacking too many packages.

But so far, it's not going well 😅 but I'll have to persevere a bit before giving up on FreeBSD

May I suggest if does not work out?
Pretty much everything is in the repos... mednafen/mednaffe, mupen64, etc. 🙂
Also: Paired with something lightweight like or this would make a great fit 😉
