We’ve made the hard decision to end our experiment with Mozilla.social and will shut down the Mastodon instance on December 17, 2024. Thank you for being part of the Mozilla.social community and providing feedback during our closed beta. You can continue to use Mozilla.social until December 17. Before that date, you can download your data here (https://mozilla.social/settings/export), and migrate your account to another instance following these instructions (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mozilla-social-faq).
@mozilla pathetic
@rail_
Mozilla is such a terrible company, really sucks that they are the only alternative to chromium based browsers, and they still suck as a company.
This is why we need a community maintained browser, something that is made by the community and for the community. Where those maintaining it aren't insulated from the community's wishes. Mozilla is insulated from them and that's a big problem for the future of Firefox, and anything else they make.
@Draconic_NEO @rail_ @mozilla yea, we need a new engine asap! Firefox is doomed with ads, tracking and AI
@Draconic_NEO @rail_ @mozilla good news: ladybird is a new browser with new engine in the works. bad news: probably not ready for use at least until 2026-27
@bruhSoulz @exitcode @Draconic_NEO @rail_ @mozilla Yeah, but it's made by some people who are opposed to such basic concepts as gender-neutral language in technical documentation, so how good can it really be?
@louis @bruhSoulz @exitcode @Draconic_NEO @rail_ @mozilla which is exactly why I'm not going to be using it. Not supporting dickheads is my priority. IIRC there was more to it than plain misogyny as well.
@louis @bruhSoulz @exitcode @Draconic_NEO @rail_ @mozilla There's also @servo https://servo.org/ (which was abandoned by mozilla, there's some nice karma in that)
@bruhSoulz @exitcode @Draconic_NEO @rail_ @mozilla Ladybird is much more interesting to me than Servo. Unfortunately, not available on Windows.
@Unn0wn @bruhSoulz @exitcode @Draconic_NEO @rail_ @mozilla i would argue opposite,Ladybird is another browser written in c++ while servo is written in rust and actually bring something to table
@spiritofstar @bruhSoulz @exitcode @Draconic_NEO @rail_ @mozilla Ladybird is much more interesting cause they're actually writing everything from scratch. Servo uses some libraries created and controlled by Mozilla so they're still beholden to Mozilla and just hope that Mozilla will play nice on them.
@Unn0wn @bruhSoulz @exitcode @Draconic_NEO @rail_ @mozilla Servo was being written by mozillla but it was still from scratch, Mozilla is no longer associated or controling project of rust or servo, servo also was incorporated into gecko but now they are totally separate ,and servo is closer to being finished than ladybird and it deserves more appreciation that ladybird,it is written in more memory-safe and concurrent language not controlled with mozilla , Ladybird does use Skia Engine by Google.
@spiritofstar @Unn0wn @exitcode @Draconic_NEO @rail_ @mozilla closer to being ready? Servo had my curiosity but now has my attention. Any idea when it'll be usable 1.0?
@bruhSoulz @Unn0wn @exitcode @Draconic_NEO @rail_ @mozilla it is relatively closer but i think it is still in alpha state,it is downloadable tho, it recently gained tabbed browsing i don't think it will have complete browser experience regardless you can download demo from here https://servo.org/download/
@spiritofstar @bruhSoulz @exitcode @Draconic_NEO @rail_ @mozilla The language is controlled by a bunch of corporates that's why the whole trademark debacle happened. Rust is as open source as Chrome is. Controlled by corporates.
@spiritofstar @bruhSoulz @exitcode @Draconic_NEO @rail_ @mozilla Just look at the members of Rust foundation.
@spiritofstar @bruhSoulz @exitcode @Draconic_NEO @rail_ @mozilla Didn't know Ladybird started 3rd party libs now and owned by Google by itself too. Disappointing.
