I've a couple of Minis (2014) that are for scrap, how do I force them to boot from a USB key so I can install on them?

I can get into the system rescue thingy but I can't make it boot from there.

Holding Alt on a PC keyboard doesn't give me a boot menu like every one says...

They are pretty worthless as Macs but could be useful running on a project, being small.

Managed to find the options key, which is apparently the Alt key - evidently you do need intuition to use a Mac as obvious isn't much use....

@drajt My wife once brought home some Mac laptop from work.

We couldn't find out how to connect it to our network. There *were* various settings apparently to do with networking, but they were described in such wishy-washy dumbed-down terminology that we couldn't work out what they were or how to use them. We couldn't find any concept of "how to turn on the DHCP client", which was all we wanted.

She took it back and complained and they gave her a Windows laptop instead, which she's used (with replacements over the decades) ever since. And they work at home too.

Intuition didn't work with the Mac. Neither did knowing the correct technical terms for what you were looking for. So to this day we have no idea what *was* supposed to work.

@TimWardCam yes there is some good engineering in there but a lot of fluffy rubbish.

The good news is I've got Debian installed without a problem, but SMART says the HDD isn't healthy, which is a pain to replace and even more annoying as the CPU isn't too bad and it has 8GiB RAM.
