'Der Taucher', the Diver, engraving by Otto Verhagen from an old bundle of classical German poetry.

Always puts me in mind of the title track from Joanna Newsom's album Divers: yewtu.be/watch?v=48xlgXqQKLA

A black-and-white engraving, looking like a block print, of an undersea scene featuring a large, deep whirlpool surrounded by various fantastical fish, jellies and other sea creatures. Among them, right and bottom of centre, is a skinny man with hair to his shoulders, with a strained look on his face, holding on to a tall, skinny black spire that runs vertically through the whirlpool. The man's skin appears scaly. Underneath the scene is written O. Verhagen, below that in gothic lettering 'Der Taucher.'
