@Joewood Thanks for asking! We are building a group chat app for professionals that enables sharing from the chat to multiple social networks, including Mastodon. The monetization happens on the app, so we put money aside to finance the Equel mastodon instance from that.

@alasaarela oh cool, so cross posting is from the app and it's a mandatory part of the sign up? I like the idea of using the professional network on LinkedIn, I think for a lot of people Twitter was a place to talk about their work. At least in part.

@Joewood We made LinkedIn authentication mandatory because we don't want anonymous users. We are building a safe space for professional networking, and hope to enable professionals to network in the fediverse too. I believe AI-generated text will make it so easy to create massive farms of anon accounts for manipulation, and the only way to create trust is to verify a real human behind the account. There are also social networking use cases for anonymous but verified accounts, for example for people who are being oppressed in their societies. But we are not trying to solve that problem, but rather trying to help professionals to network in a safe and healthy environment.
