Prompted by a tweet in the other place ... can anyone recommend a good source on how electric #valves work? I understand how #transistors work, but valves are a mystery. Looking for an explanation from the point of view of what the electrons do and why.
@DrHyde Don't know if I have any source, but basically the (heated) anode emits electrons that can be received by the cathode. By carefully controlling parameters, you can then introduce a control grid in-between that (when suitably biased) assists the flow and wen (suitably unbiased) inhibits it.
But, then, it's been three decades since I studied electronics, so my memory is most likely wrong.
@DrHyde Do you mean.... like... a solenoid?
